WELCOME TO RECEPTION

Here is some useful information about this half term and an overview of what we will be learning about!

The Great Outdoors!

Our topic is ‘The Great Outdoors’ and we will be looking at different kinds of creatures, habitats and environments. We’ll also be going on our first school trip to Pizza Express on Tuesday 29th April.

 

Literacy:

Our focus books this half term are going to be What the Ladybird Heard, Captain Duck, Superworm and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

We will be learning the following phonics sounds:

  • ‘ai’ as in aim
  • ‘ee’ as in eel
  • ‘igh’ as in knight
  • ‘oa’ as in goat
  • ‘oo’ as in cook
  • ‘oo’ as in spoon
  • ‘ar’ as in arm
  • ‘or’ as in fork
  • ‘ur’ as in purse

 

Maths:

This half term, we will be learning about:

  • Numbers 11-20
  • Addition
  • Subtraction
  • Manipulating shapes
  • Seeing 2D and 3D shapes in pictures

 

Understanding the World:

  • The celebration of Easter, what this means and what traditions can look like
  • Understanding changes of matter through melting chocolate
  • Our local area and going on a local trip
  • Signs of Spring and Spring events
  • Matching animals and their babies
  • Minibeast creatures - what are they?
  • Going on a minibeast hunt
  • Life cycle of a butterfly
  • Observing caterpillars in class

 

PE:

PE will take place this half term on a Friday morning. Please make sure children have their PE kit on Fridays (white t-shirt and black shorts) and that it is NAMED. Please also make sure children are wearing trainers on Fridays.

 

PSED and Circle Time:

  • Talk about how we care for animals and living creatures
  • Working collaboratively, sharing, taking turns and following group rule.
  • Looking after others
  • Show resilience and perseverance in the face of challenge
  • ‘Growing up’ and taking responsibility

 

Parental involvement:

  • Play and Learn sessions will continue this half term on Thursday mornings 09.00-10.00am starting Thursday 1st May. This will be the last half term of these sessions, so please do try and come along!
  • Bradley Bear and the Snuggle Pack will continue to be sent home every Friday
  • Next half term, we will be going on a trip to Hesketh Farm for the day on Wednesday 25th June. Please let me know if you would be able to help and accompany us on the trip.
