Here is some useful information about each half-term topic.

We will be learning phonics sounds throughout the year. Here are some examples for this term:

  • ‘s’ as in sun
  • ‘a’ as in apple
  • ‘t’ as in teddy
  • ‘p’ as in pan
  • ‘i’ as in insect
  • ‘n’ as in net
  • ‘m’ as in man
  • ‘d’ as in dog

 

Maths:

This year we will be learning:

  • Identifying, creating and exploring patterns
  • Number recognition 0-10
  • Visualising and describing positions
  • Exploring mapping and representing with models
  • Creating our own maps

 

Understanding the World:

  • Observing and recording the Life Cycle of a Chick
  • Exploring floating and sinking using different materials
  • Naming properties, properties of materials and talking about how materials can change
  • Visit to Hesketh Farm
  • Discussing the range of animals found on a farm
  • Sort animals into groups
  • Discuss and observe the season of summer
  • Discuss holidays that children have experienced in the past, including other countries that children may have visited

 

PE:

PE will take place this half-term on a Friday morning. Please make sure children come to school in their PE kit on Fridays (white T-shirt and black shorts) and that it is NAMED. Please also make sure children are wearing trainers on Fridays.

 

PSED and Circle Time:

  • Discuss likes and dislikes
  • Discuss family members and who is important to us
  • Understand how to stay safe
  • Taking care of our natural world
  • Planning and carrying out activities and being resourceful
  • Changing plans to meet set goals
  • Preparing for new challenges
  • Winning and losing
  • Talk about feelings - linked to transitions
  • Who can help us in school
  • Transition to Year One

 

Parental involvement:

  • Bradley Bear and the Snuggle Pack will continue to be sent home every Friday from Autumn 2 
  • During Health and Sports week, you will be invited to come and watch Sports Day!
